Choosing The Bath For You…

Choosing whether to include a bath in a bathroom can stir up quite the debate. For some, it’s a fixture hardly used. For others, it’s a must have, especially for a family with young children. Here are some tips on how to choose if and what bath is right for your bathroom, lifestyle and budget.

A freestanding bath or spa bath will create an instant focal point in the bathroom but will typically be more expensive than a built in bath. The inclusion of this trending style will modernise a space and can also add resale value to your property.

A freestanding bath or spa bath has no limitations on where they can be installed, making them extremely versatile and easy to work with within a space. However it is recommended that a 150-300mm gap be left around the bath to allow for easy access and cleaning.

Decina’s freestanding baths or spa baths come in a variety of shapes and sizes to suit any bathroom layout.

If space is limited in your bathroom, but you still love the freestanding look, a back-to-wall or back-to-corner freestanding bath style is a great option.

These baths sit back, flush against the tiled wall so there is no need to worry about that extra space allowance around the edge of the bath. Furthermore a back-to-corner freestanding bath fits perfectly into a corner along two of its edges.

Decina’s back-to-wall and back-to-corner freestanding baths also feature a tile bead so they can be fully integrated into the tiled wall, creating a water tight seal around the edges.

An inset bath or spa bath is most likely the type of bath you grew up with. It’s been modernised since then with extra length and a variety of shapes to choose from, but it is still characterised by a tile bead around the edges so it can be fully integrated into the tiled wall, creating a water tight seal around the edges. This style of bath or spa bath is ideal for a bathroom that lacks space or for a shower over bath installation.

An island bath or spa bath is still built-in like an inset bath or spa bath, but it can be set away from all walls, positioned anywhere in the bathroom in its own hob, creating a ‘island’ style focal point. This style of bath or spa bath in its hob, offers an edge around the bath rim that is ideal for seating, storage or styling.

If your bathroom doesn’t have enough space for a separate bath and shower, combining the two gives the best of both worlds. The most popular shower baths are inset baths with extra width and an anti-slip pattern on the entry and exit zones. These baths can also easily have a glass shower panel or screen installed directly on their tile bead to keep water contained during showering.

Additionally this bath style on a smaller scale can be used as a deep shower base or a fixture easily accessible for those less mobile.

The incorporation of a spa bath creates a day spa feel in your bathroom, along with hydrotherapy and therapeutic benefits.

Available in an exciting range of freestanding or built-in styles and shapes Decina can also help customise your spa bath with an array of technology and design innovations.

White is classic and ever popular, but black creates instant interest and if you fancy black tapware or accessories throughout your bathroom a black bath will create a cohesive look.

All Decina baths and spa baths are manufactured from sanitary grade acrylic or pressed metal.

The main difference between these two manufacturing materials is that sanitary grade acrylic retains heat better, is lighter and can have additional hygiene and maintenance properties adhered to the surface while pressed metal is generally more scratch resistant.

When it comes to choosing the right bath or spa bath for you and your bathroom, the options really are endless, but Decina makes choosing easier than ever. So make a start and check out their full range now.

Bath Bliss!

At Decina baths are our thing and we also know how to use them best! These all natural, ultra-indulgent DIY Rose infused bath bombs are simply divine. They combine beet powder, dried rose petals and essential oils that perfectly pamper and create blissful baths you’ll wonder how you ever did without before.

Here’s what you’ll need…
– ½ cup baking soda
– ⅛ cup arrowroot powder
– 2 teaspoons beetroot powder
– ¼ cup citric acid
– ⅛ cup pink Himalayan salt (fine)
– 1 teaspoon rosehip oil
– 3 teaspoons sweet almond oil
– 3 drops eucalyptus essential oil
– 1 tablespoon dried rose petals
– 1-2 teaspoons witch hazel
– Bath bomb moulds (these never fail)

1. Add baking soda, arrowroot powder, citric acid and pink Himalayan salt to a large glass mixing bowl. Whisk to blend and remove any clumps.

2. Add beetroot powder for a natural pink colour and whisk once more to combine.

3. In a small mixing bowl combine rosehip oil, sweet almond oil and eucalyptus essential oil. Then slowly pour the wet mixture into the dry mixture, whisking as you go. If the mixture begins to fizz or foam, slow down.

4. To test the consistency of your mix, scoop a small amount into your hand and squeeze it together. It should stick together and hold its shape. If the mixture is too dry and powdery adda  ½ teaspoon of witch hazel or water. Then mix well and test again. Repeat until you have the correct consistency.

5. Once the bath bomb mixture is ready, place a pinch of dried rose petals in the base of one half of a bath bomb mold, then scoop each side of the bath bomb mold into the mixture until it’s just overflowing. Press the two sides together and let stand for 2 minutes. Once set gently release the bath bomb. If the bath bomb cracks while removing it, scoop a little more mixture and press together again.

6. Allow the pressed bath bombs to dry uncovered for at least 8 hours. Then store in a dry place or container until your ready to use them.

This mixture will make 6 x large (140 gram) bath bombs or 12 x small (70 gram).

So what are you waiting for? You can gift these gorgeous balls of bliss or simply keep them all for yourself in case of emergency.

From Wall To Wall

Wallpaper is making a comeback and we are here to share the news!

Wallpaper is all about making a statement and it’s an easy way to add unique character to a room. Whats more is, this decor treatment is no longer reserved for just the walls of your living room. Industry professionals, DIY renovators and everyone in between is jumping on board, dressing the walls of bathrooms with quirky motifs, haphazard poka-dots, modern florals, bold colour and luxe texture.

We couldn’t help get excited about this one, so we have pieced together some helpful hints and tips to get you up to speed with giving your bathroom walls the impact they deserve.

– Vinyl wallpaper is considered the ideal choice for wet areas like bathrooms and laundries, however with the correct treatment most wallpapers will work in these rooms of the home. For example if you have your heart set on a paper or fabric wallpaper consider hanging it away from direct splash zones like sinks, showers and baths and apply a suitable protective vanish it suit the specific wet zones you want to dress up. If in doubt do some investigation into the manufacturers specifications for the product and go from there.

– To ensure your wallpaper doesn’t become mouldy over time, first check your bathroom has adequate ventilation from an extractor fan or window. Then prep your walls with an anti-fungicide paste and use a mould-resistant adhesive during the installation.

Wallpaper will instantly breathe new life into an exisiting bathroom or create the impact in a new space that will make you and your guests linger longer, but it choosing the correct wallpaper is an art all in its own.

– Dark tones and big, bold patterns can make a small room feel spacious by lending a sense of opulence to the space.

– Designs that feature vertical lines will give an illusion of height, while horizontal prints can widen an otherwise cramped, narrow space.

– If walls covered in colour and prints just aren’t for you, choose a barely there faux render or watercolour effect. These subtle textures will have a luxe effect but still allow the fixtures, fittings and bathroom ware in the space to shine.

So style it your way… Be brave, have fun and remember nothing needs to be forever, so just go with a wallpaper that ‘sparks joy’ for you!

WELS Who Knew?

A bathroom renovation or build can quickly turn into a mind field of plumbing terminology and numbers that can be tricky to get your head around. So heres a quick break down of one of the most important efficiency rating systems you need to know about.

So what does WELS Star rating mean?

WELS is short for Water Efficiency Labelling Scheme. This global standard water rating allows consumers to be environmentally conscious and economically savvy. As it compares the water efficiency between different products including tap ware, toilet suites, washing machines, dishwashers and so on. Its simple really, the higher star rating a product has.

Its compulsory for all water consumption product to have a WELS Star rating and its illegal for any of these products to be advertised or promoted without featuring this information. So keep an eye out and make smart decisions when purchasing these products because your back pocket and your environment will thank you for it, in the long run.

Here’s some interesting facts to get you thinking.

– A 3 STAR rated toilet suite will use 6L per full flush and 3L per half flush.

– A 4 STAR rated toilet suite will use 4.5L per full flush and 3L per half flush.

– With an average of 35 flushes per person, per week in Australia, the choice is easy isn’t it?

A 3 STAR rated shower head will use 8.5L of water per minute.

– A 4 STAR rated shower head will use 7L of water per minute.

– The average Australian’s shower lasts seven minutes and a quarter of the population showers twice a day! Furthermore most of us are willing to watch and waste 15 seconds of perfectly good cold water before the temperature meets our liking. Now do the maths on those numbers.
